Emily Qiu

Lawyer

Emily is a junior lawyer admitted to practice in 2023.

Emily made an unsolicited approach to Duxton Hill seeking a position with us because she has a genuine interest in assisting persons and business adversely affected by (or accused of) fraud, corruption, and professional misconduct. It didn’t take long for us to realise that Emily is a smart and enthusiastic young lawyer destined to do good things so we had no hesitation to invite her to join us – which she gladly accepted.

During her time at university, Emily discovered her interest in Criminal Law and was exposed to legal practice through volunteering at a boutique Criminal Law firm alongside an accredited criminal law specialist. This provided her with the foundational understanding of legal practice, laying the groundwork during her studies.

Emily continued working in the Criminal Law space as a paralegal where she actively assisted with both summary and indicatable offences and worked closely with clients from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. She subsequently went on to complete her practical legal training where she made the decision to diversify her experience and explore different areas of practice. She completed her placement and was a law graduate at an Immigration Law firm where she assisted in various visa subclasses as well as appeals at the Administrative Appeals Tribunal.

Whilst completing her practical legal training, she had the opportunity to shadow a barrister whose unique practice in North Korean human rights law allowed Emily to take part in research for academic journal articles on war crimes committed under International Law.

Emily has native proficiency in Cantonese.
